Renaissance Marquis Hosts 3rd Charlie Hyde Alzheimer’s Awareness Golf Tournament, Sept. 18, Benefiting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Rome’s business community increases support for charity golf event to be held at Cedartown’s Meadow Lakes Golf Club, benefiting the North Georgia Alzheimer’s Association.
ROME, Ga. (August 27, 2015) – Renaissance Marquis retirement community will host the Third Annual Charlie Hyde Memorial for Alzheimer’s Awareness Golf Tournament on Friday, Sept. 18, at the Meadow Lakes Golf Club, located at 383 Adams Road in Cedartown.
All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
The tournament will be a four-person scramble format with a Shotgun start at 10 a.m. Teams interested in participating should contact Ben Baker at Renaissance Marquis, (706) 295-0014, by Friday, Sept. 11.
“The Charlie Hyde Memorial for Alzheimer’s Awareness Golf Tournament is part of Renaissance Marquis’ continuing commitment to supporting Alzheimer’s research and the local Alzheimer’s Association,” says Baker, Director of Marketing at Renaissance Marquis.
“Last year’s event was a tremendous success, raising over $13,000 for the North Georgia Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We expect this year’s event to be even bigger with more teams and an expanded group of key sponsors that include: Chick-fil-A, V3, WALQ 1410, Bojangles’, Farmers Insurance and Eagle Rock.”
The tournament’s namesake, Charlie Hyde, and his wife, JoAnn, were long-time residents of Renaissance Marquis. When JoAnn was diagnosed with dementia, Charlie became a strong advocate for Alzheimer’s research and memory care on his wife’s behalf. Mr. Hyde passed away in May 2014.
“Charlie was also passionate about golf,” says Baker. “When we first started talking about developing a fundraising tournament, Charlie’s name immediately came up. This is one of the best ways we could think of to honor him, and combine two of his greatest passions later in life.”
The $300 team registration fee will cover the tournament entry, awards luncheon, and on-course food and beverage. There will also be prizes in both the men and women’s categories for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin.
Renaissance Marquis is also hosting a silent auction with a variety of outstanding items donated from some of Rome’s most gracious local businesses.
